LUSAPHO APRIL to race for TEAM AFRICA in 10Km Peachtree road race in Atlanta

Congratulations to Lusapho April for his inclusion in the Africa 10Km team to participate in the inaugural Preachtree Road race in Atlanta on 4 July 2015.

Selected members of TEAM AFRICA are:

  1. Gebre Gebremariam of Ethiopia (former world cross country champion and New York Marathon winner)
  2. Sammy Kitwara of Kenya (all-time top 10 lists over the half-marathon (58:48) and 10km (27:11)
  3. Lusahpo April of South Africa (former Hanover marathon winner)

The team competition, called the Peachtree Cup, will feature four entries:

  1. Team USA, 2. Team Africa, 3. Team Asia, and 4. Team Europe.

Each roster will consist of six athletes, three men and three women. The team members’ individual finish times will be added together to determine the fastest cumulative time and the winner of the Cup.

The Peachtree Cup will be incorporated in the annual Peachtree race, which attracts around 60 000 participants each year.

The Peachtree Road Race’s total prize purse of $98,500 will include $81,000 for the team competition, with the remaining amount awarded to individuals in the men’s and women’s open and masters races
April holds a 10km personal best of 28:42, set in Port Elizabeth more than four years ago.
