JOE GQABI DISTRICT

  • Individual Athlete Program (IAP):This program provides scientific, life skills and athlete support to nominated elite athletes.   The criteria for acceptance onto the programme are at least provincial colours, with the prospect of a medal at national/international level.In principle, there are currently 10 IAP Athletes in the Joe Gqabi District.

 

Joe Gqabi District Academy High Performance Hubs:

Maclear Rugby Academy:

The Maclear Rugby Academy  is situated at the Maclear High School in the rural parts of the Joe Gqabi District, near Mthatha.

A squad of 22 players, from various schools and towns in the Maclear area, has been selected for the programme with the aim to identify and develop talented young players to feed into the ranks of the Border Rugby Union and the Eastern Cape representative teams.

Mr Mark Prinsloo is assigned the role of Head Coach and Maclear Rugby Manager.

Players on scholarship are offered accommodation in the Maclear High Schools hostel, school fees, transportation, nutrition, as well as full-time rugby coaching and conditioning.

Players train 5 times per week under the guidance of the Conditioning Specialist and Head Coach.

 

Burgersdorp Athletics Hub:

The  Burgersdorp Sprinting hub is based  in Burgersdorp situated in the Joe Gqabi District and comprises mostly of Sprinters.

A total of 12 Sprinting athletes  forms part of the Hub.

Mr Mongezi Mokoena is assigned the role of Head Coach as is the Hub Coordinator.

 

Player train 3 times per week under the guidance of the Coach and Conditioning Specialist.
