Individual Athlete Programme (IAP):
- There are currently 10 IAP Athletes in the O.R Tambo District.his program provides scientific, life skills and athlete support to nominated elite athletes. The criteria for acceptance onto the programme are at least provincial colours, with the prospect of a medal at national/international level.
O.R Tambo District Academy High Performance Hubs:
Dan’s Tennis Academy/Hub :
Dan’s Tennis Academy is situated 22 km outside Mthatha on N2 highway road to Durban. The Tennis Academy was started on 12 July 2011 and officially opened by Minister Fikile Mbalula on 16 June 2012. The Academy has 2 all-weather courts that are part of Dan’s Country Lodge.
A total of 22 athletes (males and females) age between 13-20 forms part of the hub.
Players are selected by colonel Marshall from schools (Lurasini SPS, Mngceleni SPS, Mcasa SSS and Mangala SSS) in the vicinity of the academy.
The project initiator and coordinator is the well-known tennis enthusiast colonel Marshall. The program runs year round from Monday to Friday. Athletes train 5 times a week under the guidance of Head Coach Cln Julius Nonco.
Lusikisiki Athletics Hub:
The Lusikisiki Athletics hub is situated at the St Johns High School in the O.R Tambo District.
A total of 21 players forms part of the Hub.
Mr Bongi Mbamali and Xolisani Zamkele are currently coaching the group of players.
Player train 4 times per week under the guidance of the Coach and Conditioning Specialist.
