OR TAMBO DISTRICT ACADEMY

INDIVIDUAL ATHLETE PROGRAMME (IAP)

There are currently 6 IAP Athletes in the O.R. Tambo District, with 2 athletes in the A-Category and 4 in the B-Category.

Gxulu Middle Distance Hub

The Gxulu High Performance Middle Distance Hub is based in a small town called Gxulu near Mthatha, with a total of eight athletes between the ages of 10 – 16 years forming the Hub. This group of runners train 5 times a week under the guidance of coach Bonginkosi Mbamali and the duration of each training session takes about an hour. The Academy assists this Hub with funding for training camps.

Outstanding Athlete Achievements:

Sigcobile Lubuzo (4km): Won a Silver Medal at the ASA National Cross Country Championships held in Rustenburg as well as a Gold Medal at the Schools National Cross Country Championships, held in East London.

Mthatha Sprinting Hub

The Mthatha High Performance Sprinting Hub is situated in Mthatha and comprises of eight athletes between the ages of 13 – 14 years. The group trains 3 times a week with each session taking an hour long. Bonginkosi Mbamali is the Hub Coach and Mzwandile Sithelo is the Hub Coordinator of this training group. The Academy also assists this Hub with funding for training camps.
